July 3: York to Alton Towers

Back to CrossFit Jorvik, just a short walk away in the cool morning breeze. It was a brutal AMRAP that included a torturous number of weighted Turkish get-ups. I was sore for a few days afterward.

Then back to the hotel to get showered and packed yet again. We were definitely getting tired of living out of suitcases, but the beauty of York revived us, and the excitement of going to Alton Towers put a spring back in the kids' step! Plus our first priority was to buy Stone some new pants, so the kids were happy to hear that they would get a break from History stuff in favor of some clean, modern, familiar stores like Gap and H&M. After a couple of back-achy hours of shopping we headed to the Greek food truck that was the highest-rated lunch in York, orbiting it for 15 minutes in hopes it would be open at noon as the website claimed. No luck. Bought a bunch of extremely expensive fruit at a nearby farmers market which turned out to have no flavor. Found a Latin American-inspired restaurant that looked promising (everyone has been missing Mexican food except Sophie) but it was disappointing too. You win some, you lose some! Off we went to hike in the Peaks District on our way to Alton Towers, listing to The Golden Compass on the way.

First few photos: Hike in the Peaks District. Soooooo many sheep! And the cutest mommy duck watching over her huddled sleeping babies.

Last two photos: We arrived at Alton Towers in the evening and were so excited to see a hot tub on the back patio!! We crashed for the evening, eating the packaged oatmeal biscuits (cookies) and just-add-water hot chocolate that were set out for us on the table, too exhausted to even eat a proper dinner. Night-night! World-record-breaking roller coasters in the morning!!!
